It-Women, part B

Anna is a surreal creature: she’s forty-six years old, was born and raised in Bari, lives
in Milan, and is the woman who—more than any other—knows, loves, and dreams of
fashion… the kind of fashion with a capital F. It’s as if she’s living in an eternal, beautiful fairy tale. Professional fashion journalist, she’s a dyed-inthe-wool fashion victim: she started her career as fashion editor of Vogue Italia, then went on to become director of Uomo Vogue, and is now fashion consultant and art director
of Vogue Nippon. Anna, who works a lot, decided as a little girl that her path would be exactly what it has since become. She shows up at all the runway shows in London,
New York, and Paris with largesuitcases in tow, and between one show and the next she runs back to her hotel to change. She always knows the right dress for any and every
event. She owns one thousand pairs of shoes, which she stores in boxes with photos of each on the outside—and let’snot even mention her closets and wardrobes overflowing with clothes, all signature pieces, all with their own history. Her home isn’t huge, but
has a few sumptuous pieces of baroque furniture in the living room; the large room next to it is virtually empty, and that’s where she practices yoga on a daily basis. The only decoration is an enlargement of the main salon of the Palazzo Gangi, where the ball from Il Gattopardo [Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa’s book The Leopard, turned into a film by Luchino Visconti] took place. Her dog, a small type of female hound, is called Marie Antoinette. Seen here in her long Roberto Cavalli dress, Anna chose vintage crystal earrings and red moccasins. Anna has two sides to her personality: one is spiritual, inward looking, pure, and optimistic, which trumps her other side, the more pragmatic, work-obsessed Anna, in eternal search of extern.
